What can I expect from Virtual Learning?

Our Virtual Learning courses give delegates the opportunity to learn from the comfort of their own home whilst still getting all the tuition they would in the classroom.

This is training online but not to be mistaken for E-learning. Our training is delivered in real time by one of our electrical tutors using video conferencing software that gives delegates the opportunity to watch and listen to the tutor, follow the presentation live and interact and ask any questions they may have.

There are scheduled course dates with set start and end times, and short breaks throughout the sessions. This differs to E-Learning where courses are pre-recorded and you can join at any time.

Our virtual learning can be accessed via a PC, laptop or tablet. When you make a booking, we’ll then send you your joining instructions with the link to access the training – it really is that simple.

What information do I need to provide?

To ensure our virtual courses run as smooth as possible, we require the following:

  • Delegate Name, Email Address and Contact Number
  • Postal Address for the course pack, containing course notes and any purchased publications

We ask for this information no later than 2 weeks before the course start date. If no information is received, the email invite and course pack will be sent to the booker and company address provided.

How do I take the exam?

All exams for online courses must be taken via the ECS Remote Invigilation System (RIS) which allows delegates to take an invigilated assessment without having to travel to a centre for an invigilator to monitor your behaviour in person while taking a test.

Instead of an invigilator watching a delegate take their test, automated online monitoring software using an artificial intelligence program is used to verify the identity of the person taking the assessment and then used to constantly monitor the delegate and record their exam performance.

Please note that the exam is a CLOSED BOOK exam. You will therefore NOT be able to use reference materials during the invigilated exam.

To take the assessment delegates must:

•    Be in a room on their own and not be disturbed

•    Have a current Photo ID with them

•    Pay full attention at all times and respond to all attention prompts without delay

Further information about the remote invigilation process is available on the ECS website https://www.ecscard.org.uk/ris or you can download the delegate user guide.

Please note, to gain the BCIA Technical Certificate after completing courses BCM00 – BCM03, you will be required to sit a separate exam via the ECS Remote Invigilation Service. There is no additional cost for the exam, and it is administered by the BCIA Training Centre. On completion of a BCM00, BCM01, BCM02 or BCM03 course all delegates will receive an email which includes further information about the exams and how to apply.
